Description
Formula SAE Lincoln is one of the two Formula SAE competitions in north america. The compeition is hosted by SAE International and industrial partners that include some of the largest names in automotive and engineering industries. Roughly 80 teams from universities from around the world compete in a 4 day events that evaluates a 3/4 scale Formula 1 style open wheel racecar for performance, design, and mass production viability. The team are supposed to use a roughly 135 page rule book to design and manufacture their racecars while keeping track of every cost to create a roughly 300 page bill of materials and design report. The Judges for the competition are industry leading engineers that have been working in the industry for decades. The cars are scored based on how they perform in driving events against other teams, essentially basic racing events to see how the car would perform in a real race. Another part of the scoring is the design event where the judges critique the student designed cars for all of the engineering work and decisions that went into the car. The final scoring event is the cost report and business logic event which evaluates all of the costs associated with mass producing our car design.
